Congress approves extension of six months the aid of 426 euros for the unemployed

The full Congress has approved to extend the subsidy of 426 euros charged by the unemployed who have exhausted their unemployment benefit for six months, from August.
The draft resolution, an initiative of the parliamentary group ERC-IU-ICV and amended by the PSOE was supported by the majority of the House and had 343 votes in favor, 2 against and one abstention.
The temporary protection program for unemployment and insertion will target groups of unemployed over 45, under 30 and long-term unemployed and involves the extension of assistance approved by the Executive, whose term expired on August 15.
Speaking at the debate of motions following the debate on the state of the nation, the ERC spokesman, Joan Tarda, justified this initiative that "The circumstances" that led to its approval, since the economic crisis continues negative impact on unemployment.
Desde ICV spokesman in Congress, Joan Herrera, was pleased that this measure "thrive" even though "the government was not so clear."
For his part, Rep. Eduardo Madina PSE defended the proposal as a defense for maintaining the welfare system and to maintain social protection "hallmark" of the socialist group.
Also, the spokesman of the PSOE, José Antonio Alonso, said before the debate that it is a "good deal" and noted that the amendment agreed with ERC-IU-ICV refers to the "orientation" that should have such assistance.
The amount of the benefit is 80% Public Income Indicator of Multiple Effects (IPREM), which in 2009 was 420 euros and in 2010 amounted to 426 euros.
This grant has already been extended by the Government on February 12 by year and then the Deputy Prime Minister said the aid would not affect current beneficiaries, as the maximum time that can receive the allowance is six months "non-extendable."
To date the number of beneficiaries of this aid amounts to about 243,100 people and cost is estimated as 517.8 million euros.
