Unemployment down in July in 73,790 people down for the second time since December 2009

The number of unemployed registered at the offices of public employment services fell by 73,790 people in July, 1.85% from June, bringing the total of unemployed people stood at 3,908,578, down from four million for the second time since December 2009, as reported by the Ministry of Labour and Immigration.

This decrease is attributable to contracts summer, is the fourth in a row after June, when unemployment fell by 83,834 people, and the best data that is recorded in July since 1998. Last year, 20,794 fewer unemployed in July left.

In the last twelve months, unemployment has increased by 364,483 unemployed, 10.28% more, of which 165,736 are men and 198,747 women, with increases of 9.37% and 11.2% respectively.

Specifically, in the seventh month of the year there were 43,023 fewer unemployed compared to June (-2.2%) compared to a fall in female unemployment of 30,767 women (-1.5%). Thus, the end of July, the number of unemployed amounted to 1,935,278 men, while that of unemployed women was 1,973,300.

By economic sectors, there were decreases in all cases, except in the group without previous employment, which increased by 1,312 persons (+0.4%).

The largest decrease was recorded by services, with 44,496 fewer unemployed (-1.9%), followed by re-building a positive yield by reducing its number of unemployed for the fifth consecutive month, with 16,522 fewer unemployed (-2.2 %). The industry, meanwhile, reported 13,242 fewer unemployed (-2.6%), while unemployment in agriculture fell by 1,067 people (-0.87%).

By age, unemployment among young people under 25 years fell in July at 15,976 people, 3.67% less, compared with a decline in unemployment among those over 25 years of 57,814 persons (-1.63%).

UNEMPLOYMENT JUST WENT UP IN NAVARRE

The cut in unemployment is also seen among the foreign population in July experienced a 2.45% decrease in number of unemployed, with 14,312 fewer unemployed. A total of unemployed immigrants totaled at the end of last month 569,615 unemployed, with a 87,507 rise in unemployed (+18,15%) from a year ago.

In July, unemployment rose only in Navarre, which had 24 more unemployed, and fell in the other regions, especially in Catalonia (15,070 unemployed), Valencia (10,710 unemployed) and Galicia (10,036 unemployed).

By provinces, unemployment fell in 44 of them, led by Barcelona (9,609 unemployed), Madrid (8193) and Pontevedra (4181), and increased in eight, led by Almeria (stand 1700) and Seville (+ 478).

HIRING

As for recruitment, in July were recorded in the public employment services contracts totaling 1,397,265, 0.41% lower than the same month in 2009. Only 6.86% of total contracts, ie 95,823 contracts were for an indefinite period, a 13.78% less than the same month last year.

Of the remaining contracts, 11,975 were formative and 1,289,467 other temporary contracts.

From January to July, the registered contracts in excess of 8,220,000, with a rise of 2.5% over the same period in 2009. Of that amount, only 719,554 contracts made in these seven months are undefined, with a fall of 9.55% over January-July 2009.
