Unemployment in Spain rises again exceed four million people

The number of unemployed registered at the offices of the public employment service (INEM old) rose by 48,102 people in September, 1.2% from the previous month, two months and chaining upward in August after increasing by more than 61,000 .

Thus, the total number of unemployed at the end of September again exceeded the barrier of the four million people, by placing the unemployed in total 4,017,763, said today the Ministry of Labour and Immigration.

The rise in unemployment in September, the month in which unemployment tends to increase, is, however, lower than in the same month in 2009, when unemployment rose by 80,367 people.

The Secretary General for Employment, Maravillas Rojo, acknowledged that this increase in unemployed "is not a good thing", but stressed that the Spanish economy begins to show signs of improvement todavían not have resulted in a recovery in employment, as required "a longer period of sustained growth."

In the last twelve months, unemployment has increased by 308,316 unemployed, up 8.3%, of which 133,572 are men and 174,744 women, with increases of 7.2% and 9.4% respectively.

In monthly terms, the female unemployment increased by 33,512 women, 1.6% from August, while the male half rose, with 14,590 more unemployed (+0.7%). Thus, at the end of September, the number of unemployed people totaled 1,984,933, while that of unemployed women was 2,032,830.

By economic sectors, unemployment fell in three economic sectors: in construction declined by 9,738 people (-1.3%), industry fell by 4,299 people (-0.9%) and in agriculture fell by 3,552 people (-2.9%). By contrast, there were increases in unemployment in services, with 53,585 more unemployed (+2.3%) and in the group are former job, where unemployment rose by 12,106 unemployed (+3.5%).

8.8% THE CONTRACTS AND INDEFINITE.

In terms of recruitment in September were recorded in the public employment services a total of 1,390,283 contracts, up 2.6% over the same month in 2009. Of these, 8.8% of the total, or 122,090 contracts were for an indefinite period, 4.9% from the same month last year.

The Secretary General of Employment said that although it is too early to assess the effects of labor reform, hiring data for August and September show an increase in the number of contracts to promote employment (compensation of 33 days per year) over the same period in 2009.

The Ministry of Labour has approved the second extension to the Program Temporary Unemployment Protection and Integration: the aid of 426 euros per month, for up to six months may apply for the unemployed who have exhausted benefits and unemployment benefits. The Executive extended from today for the second time, the aid of 426 euros to those unemployed who have exhausted their unemployment benefits for another six months, although not until the extraordinary Council of Ministers on 20 August when approve this decision.

The program known as Temporary Unemployment Protection and Integration (Prodi), which targets unemployed with no income who have not already received this aid was approved in August, but does not begin to count up to November, with the first aids.

The Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, estimated that the first two phases of this non-contributory have already benefited 570,000 people until the end of July, and justified the new extension in the coverage rate of 80% to over 4 , 6 million unemployed.

The government approved last August this temporary aid for six months as short-term measures to minimize the impact of the crisis, and that three months later applied retroactively from August 1 at the request of the parliamentary groups.

The new extension of 426 euros not come without controversy. During the month of May various members of the Government raised the cyclical review of this aid, as the Secretary General for Employment, Maravillas Rojo, who left open the door to study "whether or not the extension of the Prodi".

426 EURO IN 2010

The amount of Prodi is 80% of the Public Indicator of Multiple Effect Income (IPREM), which in 2009 was 420 euros, and this year is the current 426 euros.

Congress approves extension of six months the aid of 426 euros for the unemployed

The full Congress has approved to extend the subsidy of 426 euros charged by the unemployed who have exhausted their unemployment benefit for six months, from August.

The draft resolution, an initiative of the parliamentary group ERC-IU-ICV and amended by the PSOE was supported by the majority of the House and had 343 votes in favor, 2 against and one abstention.

The temporary protection program for unemployment and insertion will target groups of unemployed over 45 years, under 30 and long-term unemployed and involves the extension of assistance approved by the Executive, whose term expired on August 15.

Speaking at the debate of motions following the debate on the state of the nation, the ERC spokesman, Joan Tarda, justified this initiative that "The circumstances" that led to its approval, since the economic crisis continues negative impact on unemployment.

Desde ICV spokesman in Congress, Joan Herrera, was pleased that this measure "thrive" even though "the government was not so clear."

The spread of Spanish unemployment rose three-tenths that of the OECD in May

Spain, which is by far the country with the highest unemployment in the OECD , increased in May by three tenths the differential with the average of the organization, by the double effect of increasing their own rate of unemployment by two tenths to 19.9% and fall of one tenth of the member countries of the OECD at 8.6%.

The slight decrease in the level of unemployment in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) had to do mainly with the declines in the U.S. (two tenths to 9.7%), South Korea (five tenths 3.2%) and Hungary (five less well to 10.4%), according to figures released today in a statement.

At the other extreme, Ireland saw an increase of four tenths unemployment rate to 13.3% and was confirmed as the third country with the worst data behind Spain (19.9) and Slovakia, which remained stable in May with 14.8%.

Portugal, an increase of one tenth to 10.9%, beat Hungary (with the aforementioned 10.4%). No data available for Greece since March, when the unemployment rate reached 11% of its workforce.

In the whole euro area remained stable at 10%, as in the European Union (9.6%).

Between May 2009 and March this year, the countries of the OECD where unemployment has risen more were Slovakia (3.6 points more a year), Spain (two points), Poland (1.8 points) , Portugal (1.5 points), Ireland (1.3 points), Italy (1.2 points) and Holland (1 point).

By contrast, there are others in which the proportion of unemployed during those twelve months decreased: nine tenths in Austria to 4%, six tenths in Germany 7%, six tenths in Australia to 5.2%, six tenths in Korea South at 3.2% or four tenths in Canada to 8.1%.

In its annual survey of employment prospects, published on 7 July, the OECD found that unemployment had peaked in the first quarter of this year, when it came to 8.7%, but warned that the reduction will be slow, and that the end of 2011 will still exceed 8%.

The organization said that the duality in protection between permanent and temporary employment had aggravated unemployment during the crisis, advised that guarantees balance between them contracts to ensure that the economic upturn also the labor market.

Unemployment falls in June and down from four million

The number of unemployed registered at the offices of the public employment service (INEM old) decreased by 83,834 people in June, 2.06% from May, bringing the total of unemployed people stood at 3,982,368 , down from four million for the first time since December 2009, according to the Ministry of Labour and Immigration.

This decrease is attributable to contracts summer, is the third in a row after May, when unemployment was reduced by more than 76,000 people, and the best data that is recorded in a June since 1997. Last year, 55,250 fewer unemployed in June left.

In the last twelve months, unemployment has increased by 417,479 unemployed, up by 11.7%, of which 195,121 are males and 222,358 females, with relative increases of 10.9% and 12.4% respectively.

The Secretary General for Employment, Maravillas Rojo, said in a statement that the fall in unemployment in June represents the largest monthly decline for the past five years, which, in his view, confirms that it is slowing job losses and progressively monthly figures will be recorded prior to the crisis.

BBVA expects unemployment will rise again in the first quarter of 2010
