The flotation of Chinese bank AgBank is now the biggest IPO in history

The Chinese bank Agricultural Bank of China (AgBank) has successfully completed the largest IPO in history to raise funds for a total of 22,100 million dollars (17.294 million euros) after executing the plot to oversubscription ('greenshoe') .

However, notes the Financial Times', claiming this' honorable mention 'has been a laborious task for both the entity to the underwriters of the offer and Chinese institutional investors, who have struggled over the past 30 days to keep the share price of AgBank above the IPO price set forth in order to avoid the fee for review of oversubscription.

Specifically, AgBank was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange on 15 July to debut a day after Hong Kong in the park amid high volatility and uncertainty in the equity markets, which allowed only one value manetener slight increase on the price of the IPO in its first week of trading.

Since then, shares of AgBank have shown a better performance in the Hong Kong than in Shanghai, where the share price has fallen back to levels set in the IPO.

Thus, initially erratic behavior shown by the actions of AgBank raised fears that the underwriters were forced to recover some of the early committed oversubscription fee, which would have thwarted the bid to become the largest IPO in history, surpassing also Chinese Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), which grossed 21,900 million (17.132 million euros) in 2006 and to date was listed as the largest market worldwide debut.

The Chile earthquake of Haiti surpassed 50 times, but suffered further devastation Haiti

The right image shows an example of the devastation in Haiti compared to that of Chile. It can be seen that although the earthquake in Chile on Saturday was much more powerful, it is estimated that 50 times more than that rocked Haiti in January, so far the damage in the Caribbean country are unmatched with what happened in Chile .

Specifically, Chile suffered a shock of 8.8 magnitude on the Richter scale compared to 7 degrees suffered in Haiti, but the weak infrastructure of Haiti has become more evident devastation.

Rescue efforts, the count of casualties and material losses and still end up in Chile or in Haiti, when we're already two months after the tragedy, yet experts have ventured to make a comparison between the two natural disasters. And the general consensus is that the damage in the Andean country were large but lower than in Haiti.
Why in Haiti has been worse, being a small-scale earthquake?. Expose here some of the reasons:
  • The earthquake in Chile was not densely populated. It affected a lot of infrastructure but fortunately large areas population received only shock, not collapse.
  • Chile, compared with Haiti, is a rich country, much better organized and infinitely better prepared to respond. Its construction is earthquake because it has an experience with earthquakes of Haiti lacks.
  • Regarding the scale, the quake in Chile is about fifty times stronger than the Haitian earthquake on a pure energy, nowhere near a thousand, as some sources cite only observing log scale. The type of tremor is also crucial and the "shape" of earthquake damage on the surface determines (and relative depth).
  • The Haitian quake had an oblique movement (from one side to the other) that caused many landslides strong, like throwing a napkin on which rests a small house made of cards with letters. Although we do not know much about the Chilean Quake telluric features yet, the tremor is a typical Andean vertical, its motion is upward and in the form of bounds.
  • Chile showed a large organization when its president was able to give updates of the disaster several times to the people, the day of the disaster. In contrast, in Haiti, most Haitians do not know if their President Rene Preval was alive or dead even the day after the earthquake, as the National Palace and his residence had collapsed, along with most of the buildings.
  • The luck or chance was present in Chile. The epicenter of the quake on Saturday was away from the coast and about 34 kilometers below the surface in a relatively uncontaminated, while the disaster was more superficial tectonic Haiti about 12 miles deep, on the outskirts of Port au Prince.
  • Chilean architects have built thousands of homes for low income and whose structures withstand earthquakes. In Haiti, there are no technical building codes. The architect Patrick Midy said that in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere were only three buildings earthquake-proof, he knew.
  • Practice makes perfect: Calais geologist said that seismic activity is so prevalent in Chile, where in 1960 there was the most powerful earthquake in recorded history, that "It is very likely that anyone here has experienced a major earthquake in life, "añadió.En change in Haiti," The Last in Port au Prince was 250 years ago. Who remembers that? "

* Chile earthquake image taken from the New York Times

"When you look at the architecture in Chile you see buildings that are damaged, but not complete breakdown you see in Haiti," said Cameron Sinclair, executive director of Architecture for Humanity, a nonprofit company that has helped in the reconstruction from 36 countries after disasters. Sinclair said he has colleagues in Chile who have built thousands of low-income structures to be earthquake resistant. In Haiti, however, there is no technical construction code.

In Haiti very few knew what happened last Saturday in Chile, how to know if millions of people still live in the streets, lacking food, water and electricity?

The desolating disaster caused by the earthquake in Haiti

The Prime Minister, Jean Max Bellerive, has been estimated at "more than 100,000" died from the earthquake. The numbers game is a reflection of the chaos in the country. The Red Cross, in the absence of official figures, estimated at more than three million victims.

The earthquake did not respect anyone in a city always fragile, believed to be accustomed to misfortunes until esteterremoto found wild. The presidential palace, the building of the UN has confirmed 14 dead but could have lost hundreds of employees, the cathedral, the best known hotel in the city, Parliament and hundreds of flimsy houses of a country always suffering, always mistreated by nature and by men, recorded substantial damage. Or have sunk forever. As schools and hospitals, where most needed. Even the "central prison has been destroyed. There have been leaks of prisoners," according to a spokesman for the UN Humanitarian Office.

The World Bank estimates that Haiti, the poorest country of America will lose more than 15% of its GDP because of the earthquake that struck on Tuesday, so it has confirmed a donation of 100 million dollars (70 million euros) , the highest announced so far by any country or international body.

In 2008, production of Haiti's GDP fell 15% due to four tropical storms, but the World Bank believes that this time the destruction exceed that level, since the disaster has affected a larger area and Port au Prince, the capital.

Meanwhile, some media were busy being the first to break the news by entering wrong data or images to their owners, other media chose to provide information to channel much help as possible, via Facebook, Twitter or YouTube .

SOME FACTS ON HAITI

  • The Caribbean nation of 9 million people in a former French colony and the oldest black republic in the world, which was founded by freed slaves after a revolution that led to independence in 1804.
  • Haiti is the poorest country in America with an average annual income of $ 560 per person. It ranked 146 out of 177 countries in Human Development Index, UNDP.
  • More than half the population lives on less than $ 1 per day and 78% on less than $ 2. There is a high infant mortality rate (60 per 1,000 births) and the latency of HIV among those between 15 and 49 years is 2.2 percent.
  • The infrastructure in Haiti is close to total collapse and severe deforestation has left only 2% of the forests.
  • After decades of dictatorship, former Roman Catholic priest Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 1990 became the first Haitian leader chosen in free elections. Aristide was ousted in a military coup in 1991, but returned to command the support of the United States.
  • In 2004, Aristide was removed from the country by force and exiled after a rebellion by gangs and former soldiers.
  • Haiti is ruled by President Rene Preval since May 2006 when the country returned to a constitutional mandate.
